It takes the police three years to solve the case. The police accuse Antun Lewis, a convicted drug dealer, of the crime. Lewis says he is innocent. He says that the victims were like a family to him. Prosecutors are seeking a federal death penalty against Lewis.

Since the 1960s, only three federal defendants have been put to death. One of those defendants is Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh in 2001.
