This means that all US citizens have the same rights. All citizens are protected the same under the US law, regardless of race, color, sex or religion.

The Fourteenth Amendment also defines who is considered a US citizen. It says: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside."
