Supreme Court

In 2001, high school student Joseph Frederick held up a banner that said “Bong Hits 4 Jesus” at an event outside of school. The school’s principal took the banner away and suspended Frederick. Frederick thought his right to free speech had been violated. He decided to sue the school. In 2007, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the school. They said that schools have a right to restrict student speech that disrupts educational activities.
