1800's

In the 1800's, life is difficult in Europe and Asia. Immigrants come to the United States hoping for a better life. But life in the U.S. is not easy. Many Americans are poor, live in terrible conditions and work long hours for little pay.

Americans welcome immigrants from European countries like Germany and Sweden. These immigrants are Christian and white. Many Americans do not want immigrants from China and Japan.
