In 1964, students at the University of California, Berkeley, begin collecting money in support of the African American Civil Rights Movement. The students set up a table on a street they believe is city property. The university says the street is part of the school’s campus. The university also says that no political activities are allowed to take place on campus. The students protest by having sit-ins at many on-campus buildings. Over 800 students are arrested. Eventually the university creates a place on campus where students are free to protest.
