In 1985, the Supreme Court ruled that schools do not need a warrant to search students. The Court said that schools have the right to search a student if there is enough evidence to suspect a school rule has been broken.

In 2003, 13 year-old Savana Redding was accused of giving her classmate painkillers. This behavior was against school rules. School officials searched Redding’s backpack.
