In the 1967 Supreme Court case, Katz vs. the United States, the judges rule that people have the right to privacy in their homes, cars, offices, and even phone booths. Phone taps are illegal without a warrant. The Fourth Amendment now protects you from searches without a warrant even when you are not at home.
