It is now 2010. People are still worried about gun violence in schools and across the country. The Assault Weapons Ban has expired. Now states must decide if people can own machine guns.
In June 2010, the Supreme Court rules that Americans in all 50 states have a constitutional right to have a handgun in the home for self-defense. The Court also says that city governments can create their own “reasonable” gun control laws. San Francisco, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. now ban people from carrying guns on the street. People in San Francisco also must keep guns in their homes under lock.
