The men who wrote the U.S. Constitution have just written the Sixth Amendment to protect everyone’s right to a fair trial:

“In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury . . . ”

The Founders believe that everyone deserves a fair trial. This means a trial must be quick, public, and decided by a jury of fellow Americans. They do not want Americans to sit in jail for years without a trial.
