Some of them are U.S. citizens. Others are not. José Padilla, an American citizen, is arrested in Chicago for planning to build and explode a bomb. He is given a trial by jury. Others are held in prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. They wait for years to see a judge.
Mohammed Jawad, a teenager from Afghanistan, was accused of throwing a grenade at a U.S. military vehicle. He was held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for six years without a trial. He says that while he was in prison he was tortured. In 2009, a judge ordered that Jawad should be released. The judge said the government did not have enough evidence to hold Jawad.
